Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam has assured that all outstanding payments owed to fishermen will be settled by March 5th. His statement comes amidst protests by fishermen in Kooddoo today, expressing frustration over not receiving their three months' salary.

Acknowledging the concerns raised by the protesting fishermen, Minister Shiyam emphasized that their unrest is a top priority for the government, which is actively working towards finding a resolution.

While expressing full support for the peaceful protests the Minister noted that some fishermen, whose boats did not participate in the demonstrations, are eager to resume operations. He urged the protesting fishermen to facilitate an environment conducive to the continuation of fishing activities for those who did not participate in the protest.

"The government is committed to clearing the backlog, totaling MVR 280 million, by March 5th, with MVR 250 million being the inherited debt," stated Minister Shiyam.

Minister Shiyam also highlighted that the President is actively monitoring the situation concerning fishermen's affairs, indicating a high level of attention and concern from the government.
