Speaker of Parliament Mohammed Aslam has rebuked President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for his recent remarks alleging a lack of cooperation from the current parliament with the government.

During a campaign rally, Aslam expressed his disagreement with the President's repeated claims that the parliament had not been cooperating with the government, even citing instances during the President's latest visit to Addu. He asserted that he wanted to question President Muizzu on specific instances where the parliament failed to cooperate with government requests.

Pointing to significant legislative achievements, Aslam highlighted the passing of the budget essential for government operations and the approval of all but three members of the 22-member cabinet submitted for consideration.

Emphasizing the parliament's dedication to its duties, Aslam noted that sessions were extended until December 28 last year to ensure essential matters, such as the budget, were addressed.

Moreover, Aslam refuted the President's allegations of non-cooperation, asserting that it was inappropriate for the President to make such claims. He also mentioned that it was the parliament that incurred the cost of MVR 22 million for holding the swearing-in ceremony outside the parliamentary premises, as per the President's preference.

Aslam's remarks come amidst the President's repeated emphasis on the government's need for a parliamentary majority to advance economic and developmental agendas, sparking discussions about the relationship between the executive and legislative branches.
