Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef reiterated the President’s pledge to establish a dedicated hospital in Malé to provide prompt treatment for children with thalassemia. He made the remarks during his speech at the opening of the 3rd National Thalassemia Conference at the SHE Building today.
Speaking at the event, the Vice President announced the Government’s plans to construct the hospital in phase two of Hulhumalé and to get the project underway swiftly.
The Vice President emphasized the start of the Government's committed efforts to prioritize the welfare of children with thalassemia, adding that these measures are prioritized under the Administration's 'Hafuthaa 14' roadmap. These initiatives aim to ensure special attention and access to medication and treatment for thalassemia patients. The Vice President also highlighted that the Government has started to cover all expenses for children to receive bone marrow transplants abroad, per the President's pledges. He emphasized the Government's dedication to making treatments accessible to as many patients as possible and spoke on the arrangements to supply medication and essential supplies for thalassemia treatment in islands across the country.
The Vice President additionally commended the bravery of children battling thalassemia and assured that Government ministries would work in various ways to provide better care for children with thalassemia.
