Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam has expressed concern over foreign military boarding Maldives’ fishing boat, Asruma 3, and questioning the crew of the boat.

In a post on X, the Minister said he was deeply concerned that a foreign military boarded the Asurma-3 boat while the boat was out fishing in the Maldivian territorial waters.

The vessel was operating in the Maldivian territorial waters, according to the vessel monitoring system of the Ministry of Fisheries, assured Minister Shiham. The Ministry is working closely with the Coast Guard and the owner of the vessel in connection with the incident, he said.

The MNDF said it was investigating the case. According to MNDF, the foreign military had boarded the Maldivian fishing boat while the boat was in the Maldives Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

A MNDF Coast Guard vessel has traveled to the location where the incident occurred to investigate the incident. However, the MNDF did not disclose any further details.
