President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed the former Prosecutor General Muhtaz Muhsin as the Criminal Justice Advisor to the President.

Muhtaz was appointed to the post earlier today. However, the President's Office has not yet announced this.

After working as a Criminal Court judge for many years, Muhtaz took over as Prosecutor General during the rule of former President Abdullah Yameen. However, he was removed from office in 2015 after a no-confidence motion was filed against him.

Muhtaz was charged with terrorism and sentenced to 17 years in jail. However, the Supreme Court later quashed the verdict.

Muhtaz has been appointed as the President's Criminal Justice Advisor. He contested the last PNC parliamentary primary for Dhangethi constituency but was defeated.
