In a significant move to extend humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza, Maldives has pledged $100,000 from its Zakat Fund, announced Islamic Minister Dr. Mohammed Shaheem Ali Saeed. The donation underscores Maldives' commitment to supporting communities in need and addressing humanitarian crises.

Dr. Shaheem revealed that the Zakat Fund will collaborate with the Qatar Red Crescent to deliver essential aid to the people of Gaza, who have been severely impacted by ongoing Israeli aggression. This initiative reflects Maldives' solidarity with the Palestinian people and its dedication to providing much-needed relief in times of crisis.

Highlighting previous efforts, Dr. Shaheem noted that Maldives has previously dispatched national-level assistance to Gaza through the Qatar Red Crescent on two occasions. The decision to allocate $100,000 from the Zakat Fund reaffirms Maldives' continued support for humanitarian causes and its commitment to assisting those affected by conflict and instability.

The $100,000 donation will be distributed in two phases, with a focus on providing food aid to alleviate the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. Dr. Shaheem emphasized that this decision was made under the guidance of the President, marking the first instance of the Zakat Fund extending assistance to a foreign entity.

Zakat can be paid to deserving individuals or groups who fall into one or more of eight categories. These categories include; the poor and indigent, those involved in its administration, individuals in need of reconciliation, those in bondage, the debt-ridden, causes for the sake of God, and wayfarers.

As efforts to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza intensify, Maldives' donation stands as a testament to the nation's commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and promoting global peace and stability. Through initiatives such as this, Maldives continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to humanitarian principles and international solidarity.
