The Election Commission has reported that 656 individuals have re-registered to vote abroad in the upcoming parliamentary elections. As of yesterday afternoon, Malaysia and Sri Lanka have recorded the highest numbers of re-registered voters.

Among the re-registered voters, Malaysia accounted for 385 individuals, while Sri Lanka followed closely behind with 206 registrants. In contrast, the number of registrations from India, a significant hub for Maldivian expatriates, remained notably low, with only 24 individuals registering to vote.

In the United Kingdom, 31 individuals completed their registration process, while smaller numbers were recorded in other countries. Four individuals registered in Thailand, and six in the United Arab Emirates.

Originally scheduled for the 17th of this month, the parliamentary elections have been postponed to the 21st of the following month following an amendment to the Election Act. This delay grants an additional opportunity for re-registration to vote abroad, with the re-registration period open from yesterday until the 16th of this month.

With the extended timeline, Maldivian citizens living overseas are encouraged to take advantage of the re-registration opportunity to ensure their participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
