The Ministry of Agriculture awarded Male' City Council a contract to build a temporary shelter for cats.

Minister of State Hussain Ismail signed the agreement on behalf of the ministry at a ceremony held today. Mayor Adam Azim signed on behalf of the City Council.

The President's 14-week roadmap has included the establishment of a pet care facility to assist the increasing number of cats on the streets of the city.

The Male' City Council and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) have signed an agreement to allocate 5,000 acres of land in Farukolhufushi, the second phase of Hulhumale', for the construction of a temporary cat shelter.

Once the cat shelter is up and running, the cat shelter will provide a permanent solution to the problem of cat overpopulation in the city, and the aim is to have the facility built and open to the public before the end of week 14.
