The ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has reached 28,000 members, the Election Commission said.
The Election Commission released figures showing that as of December 31, 2023, PNC had 28,201 members.
Therefore, the PNC is now the third-largest party in the Maldives. The total number of members of the two parties in the ruling coalition is 64,424, as the coalition party PPM has 36,223 members as of December 2023.
However, the opposition MDP is still the largest party in the Maldives. The number of MDP members is 52142 as of December 2023.
The PNC is on its way to crossing 30,000 members, while its founder, former President Yameen, has resigned from the ruling coalition to form a new political party called the PNF.
