Former President Nasheed has stated that he will make a person from Addu City his running mate in the upcoming presidential election.

Mohamed Nasheed, who is currently campaigning for the MDP presidential primary, said in a press conference that he believes that more young people should be in his government as he is getting older.

As such, he said he would nominate an Addu youth who would represent the whole country as his running mate.

"The running mate will be from Addu, the running mate will be someone who can represent the whole Maldives," said MDP president and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

Nasheed said MDP would not have won the 2018 election if he had tried to stay in power by force without stepping down in the situation that occurred in 2012.

"If I had stayed in power by shooting people on February 7, 2012, MDP would not have gotten a large number of votes in 2013. In 2018, it would not have even come close," said Nasheed.

Criticizing the government of President Solih who has been nicknamed "Slowlih" by the opposition, Nasheed said that what runs like a snail cannot be called fast.

The MDP presidential primary will be held on the 28th of this month. Both President Solih and former President Nasheed are competing for the presidential ticket.
