Inauguration of Ras Male' project
The government of Maldives has assured that the Fushidhiggarufalhu dredging project, aimed at facilitating the Ras Male' housing project, will continue without interruption. The project, initiated on December 18 last year under a contract with Sri Lanka's Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMC), has faced questions regarding its progress.

Covering an expansive area of 1,153 hectares, with 60 hectares earmarked for long-term acquisition by the Sri Lankan company, the dredging initiative is a vital component of the Ras Male' housing endeavor. However, concerns arose when dredging activity appeared to halt temporarily, prompting inquiries during a press conference at the Presidential Office.

Presidential Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed addressed the queries, refuting claims of a cessation in the project. Heena questioned whether the absence of visible sand-laying activity implied a halt in progress, emphasizing that extensive preparatory work was ongoing, including administrative tasks and environmental impact assessments (EIA).

Highlighting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's commitment to the project's execution, Heena reiterated the government's dedication to realizing the ambitious housing development plan. Once completed, the dredging operation is expected to yield three times the land area of Hulhumale' Phase 1 and 2 combined, accommodating approximately 65,000 housing units, including land and apartments.

Additionally, the government unveiled plans to connect Ras Male' with Male' via an innovative undersea tunnel, enhancing connectivity and accessibility between the two urban centers. As the project progresses, authorities remain focused on its successful implementation to address the growing demand for housing and infrastructure in the Maldives.
