Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has urged the public to remain vigilant against government deception aimed at securing a majority in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Addressing attendees at the closing ceremony of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s march, which marked the conclusion of the campaign for the parliamentary elections, former President Solih cautioned against falling for false promises and deceitful tactics employed by the government.

Expressing concerns over the government's conduct, President Solih accused the current administration of engaging in deceptive practices to sway public opinion and garner votes. He emphasized that the government's purported development initiatives were merely strategic maneuvers to manipulate voters.

Highlighting the lack of transparency in the government's financial dealings, President Solih criticized the administration for withholding crucial information from the public and failing to disclose financial details as requested. He also pointed out the excessive expenditure on political positions and campaigning efforts, questioning the government's priorities.

President Solih underscored the importance of holding the government accountable by empowering the MDP in the parliament. He urged voters to support MDP candidates, emphasizing that a vote for the opposition party would safeguard land rights, housing projects, and developmental initiatives.

Furthermore, President Solih expressed confidence in MDP's prospects in the parliamentary elections, citing widespread disillusionment with the current government observed during his campaign visits to various islands.

Addressing concerns about President Dr. Muizzu's failure to fulfill election promises, President Solih pledged to take decisive action to hold the government accountable once the MDP secures a majority in parliament. He reiterated MDP's commitment to steering the country towards progress and development, emphasizing the need for a parliamentary majority to achieve this goal.
