In a dramatic turn of events, a scheduled inauguration event for the People's National Front (PNF), led by former President Yameen, faced disruption as police intervened, closing the gates of Ghiyasuddin School where the meeting was set to take place.

The highly anticipated event, slated for 9 p.m., was abruptly halted by law enforcement, who cited a lack of permission from the Ministry of Education for the gathering. Despite claims by senior PNF officials that they had obtained approval from Giyasuddin School, police refused entry to attendees and even resorted to tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Former Technology Minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamal, who spearheaded the formation of the PNF, alleged that the police action was at the behest of Home Minister Ali Ihsan, and Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafiu.

The disruption came despite the Election Commission granting approval earlier in the month for the PNF's inaugural meeting, leaving attendees and organizers in disarray. Election Commission officials were also present at the event, highlighting the confusion and controversy surrounding the police intervention.
