The Election Commission (EC) has named Ali Nashath as its new Vice-Chairman during its 820th General Assembly convened today. Nashath's appointment comes following the conclusion of the term of the former Vice-President, Ismail Habeeb.

He emphasized Nashath's capacity to streamline EC services through digitalization, offering enhanced accessibility to political parties, candidates, and other stakeholders.
According to Article 7 of the Election Commission Act, the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Commission must be selected from among its members. Upon the appointment of a Chairman and Vice-Chairman, the Commission is required to promptly inform both the Parliament and the President of the Republic within 48 hours.
