The Election Commission (EC) has named Ali Nashath as its new Vice-Chairman during its 820th General Assembly convened today. Nashath's appointment comes following the conclusion of the term of the former Vice-President, Ismail Habeeb.

Former Vice-President Habeeb expressed confidence in Nashath's capabilities, citing his proficiency and potential to modernize electoral processes. He emphasized Nashath's capacity to streamline EC services through digitalization, offering enhanced accessibility to political parties, candidates, and other stakeholders.

According to Article 7 of the Election Commission Act, the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Commission must be selected from among its members. Upon the appointment of a Chairman and Vice-Chairman, the Commission is required to promptly inform both the Parliament and the President of the Republic within 48 hours.

Nashath's appointment is expected to bring fresh insights and initiatives to the EC, aligning with the ongoing efforts to optimize electoral procedures and ensure efficient service delivery.
