The Opposition MDP and Democrats have decided to boycott President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s address to the Parliament's inaugural sitting.

The MDP decided to boycott the sitting at a meeting of the party's parliamentary group held tonight. Following this, the Democrats announced through a statement to boycott the Parliament's inaugural sitting.

In the statement, the Democrats said it had come to the attention of the President that he had invited three cabinet Ministers who had not received the approval of the Parliament to the session to deliver the Presidential Statement.

Invitation to the three Ministers to the Parliament sitting, according to the party's parliamentary group, was unlawful and a challenge to the authority and dignity of the Parliament. According to the statement, the party's parliamentary group would not support initiatives that incite the government to take such unlawful acts.

As to the reports, the MDP opted to abstain from the president's address to Parliament due to the government's activities over the approval of Cabinet Ministers.

The Presidential address to the Parliament's inaugural sitting will be delivered at 9:00 am Monday.

This will be the first presidential address delivered by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu since he took office.
