The ruling Congress coalition has accused the Speaker of Parliament of encouraging the confrontations that led to assaults in the House today.

In a press statement released, the PPM/PNC coalition strongly condemned the encouragement of the Speaker of Parliament to assault MPs.

The ruling coalition said a Congress member was attacked and his head was injured during the extraordinary session of the parliament today.

"While these things were happening, no effort was made to stop this, and the Speaker of Parliament encouraging it. This is unacceptable." The PNC said in a statement.

The PPM/PNC coalition stated that it will report today's clashes in parliament to the relevant authorities.

During the confrontations and clashes today, the Parliament Member for the Kanditheemu constituency, Abdullah Shaheem, was injured and received medical treatment.

The clashes broke out after the ruling Congress party members obstructed the session after the majority party, the MDP and Democrats, decided not to approve some ministers.
