The Maldives welcomes the International Court of Justice (ICJ) order against Israel.

In a post on X, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that the Maldives welcomed the order of preliminary measures by ICJ calling on Israel to prevent and punish direct incitement of genocide in the Gaza Strip. He also added that the Maldives believes that Israel needs to stop the killing in Gaza and implement an immediate ceasefire.

"Maldives believes that Israel needs to stop the killing in Gaza and implement an immediate ceasefire. Every human life has value, which needs to be protected. Bombings, displacement, and apartheid will not bring peace."

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) today ordered Israel to take all measures to prevent the commission of genocide in Gaza, in addition to calling Israel to ensure that the military does not commit any acts of genocide.

The court also asked Israel to take all measures to punish all public solicitations for genocide and to take immediate and effective measures to address adverse conditions to life in the Gaza Strip.

Furthermore, ICJ ordered Israel to take effective measures to preserve evidence of actions impacting the Genocide convention and submit to the court a report of all measures taken to follow the orders of this court within one month.
