The current government will not sell state properties, says the Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed.

Minister Saeed’s comments come in response to former President Yameen saying that he does not see the government providing equivalent revenue to cover its expenditures.

During an event held last night by PNF, President Yameen said the current government is spending entirely instead of increasing revenue.

In response, Minister Saeed wrote on X today asking whether previous government officials have done any innovative work to increase government revenue in the first two months of their government. He also assured that the current government would not sell state properties, print money against the law, and escape financial responsibilities.

According to the Weekly Fiscal Development Report released by the Ministry of Finance, the government received MVR 390.3 million in the first two weeks of this year. Meanwhile, the government had spent MVR 524 million on operating expenditure, and MVR 312.3 million was spent on repayment of loans in the first two weeks of the year.
