The government collected MVR 275.5 million in taxes in the first two weeks of this year, according to the Ministry of Finance.

According to the Weekly Fiscal Development Report released by the Ministry of Finance, the government collected MVR 275.5 million in taxes in the last two weeks. Non-tax income stood at MVR 114.8 million.

Therefore, the government received MVR 390.3 million in the first two weeks of this year.

In the first two weeks of the year, the government spent MVR 524 million on operating expenditure. In addition, MVR 312.3 million was spent on repayment of loans. This brings the state budget spending to MVR 836.3 million so far this year, according to the Ministry of Finance.

The Parliament has approved a budget of MVR 49.8 billion for this year. Revenue and grants are expected to reach MVR 33.5 billion.

Therefore, the budget deficit for this year is MVR 16.3 billion.
