Former Minister of Information and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamal has said that the People's National Front (PNF) has asked the Election Commission not to hold the parliamentary elections during Ramadan as voting turnout may be low.

Speaking to Ras Online, Maleeh, who is leading the formation of PNF, said the party had asked the EC not to hold the elections during the month of Ramadan. Maleeh also expressed concern that the election might not be fair.

Maleeh cited several reasons for requesting a postponement of the election. The first reason was the low voter turnout. Secondly, there was a concern that the vote-counting process would coincide with iftar time. Finally, there was fear of undesirable influences affecting the election, leading to an unfair outcome.

The parliamentary elections are scheduled for March 17.

In addition to the request from PNF, the opposition MDP has also sent a letter to the EC asking for the election to be held after Ramadan.
