At the Parliament sitting on Monday, majority of the Parliament voted against the motion of no-confidence, which was submitted to the Parliament by the opposition members, against the Home Minister Imran Abdullah.

During the voting, 11 Parliament members supported the no-confidence motion against Minister Imran. However, the no-confidence motion was failed with 53 votes against it.

Prior to the voting, proposed no-confidence motion against Minister Imran was debated in his presence and during the debate, he was given the chance to speak for himself as well.

While speaking Minister Imran said that this is a political issue raised in order to provoke the governing political party coalition. He added that the intention behind this was to making up stories to provoke and intensify the political environment of the Maldives.

Speaking further, Minister said that he has not abused any woman and no chance should be given for harassment as well. He apologised for anyone who misinterpreted what he said and believed that he had described the safari rape case as not a serious matter.

The no-confidence motion against the Home Minister was submitted by the Opposition members with total 11 signature. It was signed by 9 opposition Parliament members and 2 independent Parliament members.
