The Maldives sees one millionth tourist arrival to the Maldives this year.

Tourism Minister Dr. Abdullah Mausoom welcomed the millionth tourist visitor for this year, Anton Pavlo from Russia with a special ceremony held at Velana International Airport (VIA) this morning.

Mr. Anton Pavlo arrived to the Maldives on British Airways flight this morning. In addition to Dr. Abdullah Mausoon, Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC) Managing Director Thoyib Mohammed joined in welcoming Pavlo at the special ceremony held today to welcome him.

Pavlo was accompanied on this trip by his partner and child. They will be staying at Vakkaru Maldives Resort.

For this year, the government has set a target of attracting 1.8 million tourists. However the government now expects 10 percent more tourists arrivals in the country as Chinese tourists have started coming back to the Maldives.

Last year, the government set a target of attracting 1.6 million tourists. According to the Maldives Immigration, 1,675,303 tourists visited the Maldives in the year 2022.
