Travel firms have reported a surge in demand for and the Maldives. It has recorded a near 500% increase in bookings through October and December 2020.

Since the announcement last week that UK travelers being able to visit the Maldives without having to quarantine upon returning has provided a glimmer of hope to travel agents up and down the country and consumers in search of some winter sun.

Minister of Tourism Abdulla Mausoom tweeting about the increase in the number of bookings, has said that the tourist confidence and increase in demand for the Maldives is very good news. Which is based on high safety standards of the destination ensured by the industry partners and authorities.

An increase in demand from travelers and a very late booking market is seen, because of the unpredictability of destinations being added and removed from the UK government’s quarantine list.

So far, travel firms have reported a 61% week-on-week rise in searches for the Maldives.
