The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has provided a financual grant of $10 million (MVR 154 million) in assistance to the Maldives.

This aid will support the country’s COVID-19 vaccination programme. The assistance is being provided under ADB's Asia Pacific Vaccine Access Facility to establish vaccine storage facilities and strengthen vaccination.

The ADB said Maldives has achieved many successes in the vaccination campaign and the bank's assistance will strengthen further the vaccination efforts. Hence it will also support the establishment of vaccine storage storages and other related activities, said ADB.

Under the ADB assistance, seven speedboats, two refrigerated lorries and two vans will be procured for the delivery of the vaccine across the country.

In addition to supporting the Maldives's efforts to overcome the coronavirus, ADB has decided to provide assistance to further strengthen Health and other related development key areas.
