Minister said, CT scans, MRI, and dialysis services can be introduced in atoll hospitals to alleviate the burden on IGMH, a state-owned multispecialty hospital in the capital.
With overcrowding a persistent issue at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Minister Khaleel highlighted the importance of decentralizing healthcare services to alleviate pressure on central facilities. By establishing more services in the atolls and bolstering medical staff and facilities, the government aims to enhance healthcare accessibility and quality nationwide.
The expansion of dialysis services is particularly crucial in light of the increasing prevalence of kidney disease in the Maldives. Currently, over 150 individuals in the Male' area alone require dialysis treatment, with many more residing in the atolls.
