Including attempted rape, Government has pressed 7 charges against the former Minister of Tourism, Ali Waheed.

As per the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG), out of the 7 charges filed by the Maldives Police Service, PG have filed 6 charges against Ali Waheed at the Criminal Court on Wednesday.

The charges against Ali Waheed include; inflicting a sexual injury, attempted rape, indecent exposure, attempt to cause sexual assault, and two counts of unlawful sexual contact.

As per the allegations against Ali Waheed, he sexually assaulted and harassed multiple female employees at the Ministry of Tourism on multiple ministerial trips to resorts. The President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih requested Minister Ali Waheed to voluntarily resign upon hearing the allegations against Ali Waheed. However, Ali Waheed was dismissed as Tourism Minister after he refused to voluntarily resign.

Following the allegations against Ali Waheed, his living apartment was checked by Police before confiscating his laptop and mobile phone for the investigation. As per Maldives Police Service, Ali Waheed's passport is held under a court order of travel ban.

Meanwhile, Ali Waheed has denied all the allegations against him and has said that this is a premeditated crime perpetrated against him.
