Tourism minister Abdulla Mausoom has declared that the number of tourists who have visited Maldives this year so far is higher than the amount that visited last year.

Mausoom stated that as of 27th October, more than 1,321,937 tourists had visited this year. 1,321,937 is the total number of tourists that visited the country last year.

The current goal of the government is to reach 1.6 million. According to industry specialists, this is a feasible goal. Statistics show that 1.3 million tourists have visited so far, this is a 33.6% increase from the previous year.

On this date last year, the number of tourists who visited was 978,970. This was 3.9% lower than the pre-covid rate from 2019. Even on a monthly basis, October this year has done better than October last year.

The most significant source of tourists for the Maldives is neighboring India with Russia being the second. The third biggest market is the UK.

Statistics show that on average, 4879 tourists visit the country daily.
