Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Shahid said further strengthening the diplomatic relations between China and Maldives will play an important role in Maldives economy recovery at this crucial time as Maldives face the social and economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

He said this address during a virtual reception hosted by Chinese Ambassador to Maldives Zhang Lizhong to celebrate the 71st anniversary of founding of China.

Minister Shahid, in his address, said that increasing tourist arrivals to Maldives is key to economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and he further emphasized on the importance of strengthening the relationship between the both countries and restorations of flights, trade, connectivity between Maldives and China. This will also help in bringing more tourists from China to Maldives.

Mr Shahid reconfirmed the Maldivian government's commitment to the One-China policy and highlighted that this year marks the 48th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and China. calls for further strengthening the diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Minister Shahid thanked the Chinese people, the government and companies for assisting Maldives during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and expressed hope on receiving support of Covid-19 vaccines that are currently being developed by Chinese pharmaceutical companies.
