HEP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih meeting with the Maldives Anti Corruption Committee (ACC)
Maldives Anti Corruption Committee (ACC) has informed the Ministry of finance, to remove the clause which allows projects to be awarded without a bidding process.

ACC said that through investigations it has shown that the point 10.27 in the finance rules of procedure, promoted corruption involvement. Hence the suggestion raised to the Ministry of finance, to remove this clause which allows projects to be awarded without a bidding process.

The clause 10.27 says that the state can award projects without a bidding process to state partnered companies, or companies that are included in the Maldives stock exchange. Further to this, it has mentioned in the same clause that the state can award projects from International support or International loans, without a bidding process after discussing in a committee within the Ministers cabinet.

While ACC has already raised concerns over this previously, the state has already awarded high-stake development projects without a bidding process. From these projects handover, shows corruption involvement through the audit reports.

Recently appointed members to ACC have produced a document regarding the clause, which urges the removal of the clause as through this clause, it prevents transparency and leads to corruption.
