Vice President of People's National Congress (PNC), Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) criticises the Minister Shahid on joining official work right back, without the mandatory home quarantine, after returning from overseas amidst the pandemic.

As per Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid was granted special permission to leave mandatory home quarantine after overseas travel to attend an event at State Bank of India (SBI) Male’ as he needed to perform an unavoidable official duty on behalf of the state.

HPA’s statement came after the opposition coalitions accused the health authorities of having double standards when it comes to implementing the health and safety measures rolled out amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

In regards to this, opposition party PNC’s VP Mr Mohamed Hussain Shareef says, that the actions from HEOC shows that the disease will only spread if the people are on the road and not from people at higher positions. He also highlighted that Mr Shahid’s travel from a country where millions of people are positive to covid-19, and avoiding the home quarantine shows how much double standards the current government have.

Meanwhile, Minister Shahid continues to receive criticism for attending and co-mingling with a large number of people during the ceremony to mark the large loan taken after selling a treasury bond to State Bank of India.
