President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has highlighted the importance of industry consultation in advancing the fisheries sector, assuring that all input from stakeholders will be valued.

The remarks were made during a meeting with the fishing community in R. Dhuvaafaru as part of this year’s Fishermen’s Day celebrations. The meeting was attended by stakeholders and advocates for fishermen’s rights from across the country, who shared their concerns and offered advice on sector-specific issues.

The President pledged to address the issues raised, noting that numerous initiatives are already underway and that commitments from his fisheries manifesto are being implemented according to a strategic timeline. Some projects are state-funded, while others will rely on foreign aid, he explained.

President Muizzu also promised to share positive updates at the official Fishermen’s Day function later in the day, reaffirming his commitment to tangible progress for the fisheries industry. Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials accompanied him during the meeting.
