First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has emphasized that creating inclusive employment opportunities for persons with disabilities benefits not only their families but also the nation as a whole.

She made the remarks at a ceremony organized by the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) to promote employment opportunities for persons with disabilities. In her address, the First Lady noted that integrating individuals with disabilities into the workforce enhances their health, financial independence, and quality of life. She added that workplace friendships, encouragement, and recognition from colleagues help strengthen self-confidence and personal development.

The initiative supports the Administration’s policy to expand employment opportunities for persons with disabilities. During the ceremony, the First Lady presented appointment letters to 30 newly recruited STELCO employees.

A moment of silence was also observed in memory of the late STELCO staff member Ahmed Azmeel, who passed away while receiving treatment abroad following an incident on 26 November 2025. The First Lady extended her condolences to his family, recognizing his more than 21 years of dedicated service. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu also shared his condolences on social media to Azmeel’s family and STELCO staff.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Social and Family Development, Dr. Aishath Shiham, along with senior STELCO officials.
