A total of MVR 12 million has been raised through the *Maldivians with Ceylon* telethon launched by 37 Maldivian media outlets to support victims of the monsoon disaster.
The telethon, which began at 9:00 am on November 30, concluded at 2:00 pm yesterday.
Crowe Maldives LLP, the official audit partner for the event, said it handled all cash-counting operations throughout the telethon. According to the auditors, the contributions amounted to “eleven million five hundred and fifty-three thousand two hundred and ninety-one MVR, ten cents,” “fifty-one thousand eighty-eight dollars, thirty-one cents,” and 20 euros.
In addition to the telethon, several prominent Maldivian businesses have made significant donations through the Sri Lankan Embassy, which has launched a special program to assist affected communities.
Floods and landslides triggered by Cyclone Ditwah have so far claimed 334 lives, left nearly 400 people missing, destroyed around 3,000 homes, and displaced more than 18,000 individuals into temporary shelters, according to local media.
