President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that the wisdom and foresight of Dhonbandaarain continue to inspire the Maldives nearly three centuries after the historic national liberation. The President made the remarks in a message shared on his official X account on the occasion of Huravee Day.

Reflecting on the events of 281 years ago, President Muizzu recalled the resistance against foreign occupation, noting the suffering endured by the Maldivian people after parts of Malé were set ablaze, the reigning monarch was abducted, and the nation was plunged into turmoil. He said Dhonbandaarain’s courage and leadership remain central to the country’s identity.

The President conveyed Huravee Day greetings to the people and offered prayers for the continued prosperity, stability, and progress of the Maldives.

Huravee Day is marked annually on the third day of Jumad al-Akhirah to honour national resilience, rekindle patriotism, and reaffirm commitment to safeguarding the Maldives’ identity and sovereignty.
