The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has decided to take legal action to halt 206 government projects awarded without a bidding process.
The decision was made during the MDP National Assembly meeting, following concerns that the government had granted a large number of projects to companies affiliated with ruling party members under an amendment to the Finance Rules.
The resolution, submitted by Horafushi Constituency President Ahmed Saleem, calls for repealing the amendment that allows projects to be awarded without evaluation, describing it as a violation of the Finance Act.
Saleem said the projects were distributed without equality or transparency, noting that several were granted to government-linked companies without prior announcement and that similar projects were awarded at varying prices.
The MDP also resolved to refer the matter to investigative authorities and to take action against the heads of relevant agencies in the next MDP government if no action is taken.
The resolution was passed unanimously by the members present at the meeting.
