President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has issued a decree authorizing the establishment and operationalization of the first air station of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Air Corps.
The decree was issued under the powers granted to the President by Articles 106(b) and 115(t) of the Constitution and Article 9 of the Armed Forces Act.
According to the decree, the MNDF Air Corps is tasked with establishing and operating the air station to enhance airspace surveillance, monitor the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), and support Air Corps operations. It also mandates 24-hour continuous airspace monitoring over the EEZ to strengthen national security and operational readiness.
The MNDF Air Corps was established on 15 March 2024 under Presidential Decree No. 5/2024.
