Former Planning Minister Mohammed Aslam has defended the original RTL logo, emphasizing that its colors were intentionally chosen to represent the Maldives’ three modes of national transport.

His comments follow the quiet introduction of a redesigned RTL logo, which replaced the yellow line with gray, a move that has sparked criticism and confusion on social media.

In a post on X, Aslam clarified that the original logo was not a random combination of lines and colors. He explained that yellow symbolized land transport, light blue represented air transport, and deep blue stood for maritime transport.

"The logo is not meaningless lines and colors," Aslam wrote. "It represents the integration of all three modes of national transport. A carefully designed identity."

The change was noticed after Government Spokesperson Heena Waleed announced the launch of RTL services in Baa Atoll. However, neither the Ministry of Transport nor the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), which operates RTL services, has provided an explanation for the removal of the yellow color from the design.

The redesign has drawn criticism from the public, with many calling for the restoration of the original, symbolically rich logo.
