The Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology have agreed to work jointly to strengthen the protection of workers’ rights in the Maldives.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Higher Education Minister Dr. Ali Haider Ahmed and Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan. The meeting focused on the importance of inter-agency collaboration in ensuring labour rights are respected and upheld across sectors.

According to the Higher Education Ministry, the primary objective of the meeting was to foster coordinated efforts to safeguard workers and improve enforcement mechanisms. Discussions emphasized the need for clear laws and robust regulations to ensure effective protection and accountability.

Both ministries agreed to intensify labour inspection activities and enhance oversight through collaborative action.

Officials said the move marks a step forward in aligning national policies with international labour standards and ensuring decent working conditions for all.
