President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with His Excellency Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister and Minister for Finance of the Republic of Singapore
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu paid courtesy calls on Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Monday, as part of his state visit marking the 50th anniversary of Maldives–Singapore diplomatic relations.

President Shanmugaratnam welcomed President Dr Muizzu and praised the significance of the visit. The two leaders reflected on five decades of strong bilateral ties and pledged to enhance cooperation in areas such as education, renewable energy, infrastructure, and fisheries. Dr Muizzu expressed gratitude for Singapore’s hospitality and presented a commemorative book documenting milestones in the countries’ relationship since formal ties began on February 20, 1975.

In a separate meeting, President Dr Muizzu and Prime Minister Wong discussed expanding fisheries exports, encouraging investments in renewable energy, and enhancing cooperation in education and urban planning. Both leaders emphasised the importance of small island states working together on global platforms, especially on climate change.

The visit reaffirmed the enduring friendship between the Maldives and Singapore and their shared commitment to deeper collaboration.
