North Galolhu MP Mohamed Ibrahim has raised concerns about the unavailability of essential medicines under the Aasandha scheme and urged the company to address the issue urgently.
In a letter to Aasandha, MP Mohamed highlighted that certain medicines prescribed by doctors are increasingly unavailable at pharmacies covered by the scheme.
He emphasized that the most alarming concern is the complete unavailability of critical medicines in the Maldives, particularly those required for elderly patients and individuals with chronic conditions. The letter stressed the need to ensure the availability of medications for serious illnesses such as cancer and blood pressure management.
MP Mohamed called for immediate action to resolve this public health issue and ensure that patients do not face life-threatening delays in accessing essential treatments. He also noted that private pharmacies continue to sell some of the unavailable medicines at reduced prices.
Aasandha has not yet publicly responded to the concerns.
